UK government announces green transport grants for fleet managers

UK government announces green transport grants for fleet managers
More than £1 million of finance will be made available to fleet managers in the UK as an incentive for switching to using alternative fuels or electric vehicles.

The Infrastructure Grant Programme is part of the Department for Transport's (DfT) package of measures to lower the sector's carbon emissions by 14 percent over the next decade.

Funding will be made available to fleets developing facilities for the use of biofuels or recharging points and other such infrastructure requirements for electric cars.

Cenex, the UK's Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technologies, will manage the programme for the DfT.

Robert Evans, chief executive of the organisation, explained that the costs of installing refuelling and recharging infrastructure have put many fleet managers off the idea of switching to cleaner, more resource efficient fuels.

"This programme will encourage operators to accelerate the introduction of lower-carbon technologies into the UK vehicle market, thereby helping cut the UK's total carbon emissions."

Firms of all sizes are eligible to take advantage of the grants, which can rise up to 50 percent of the total cost associated with installing new fuel infrastructure.

I am currently in the process of setting up (partly non-profit) low carbon emission transport for electric bicycles and electric motor scooters. I would be grateful if you could give me some advice on grants and funding. I am not looking for a large amount. I have my suppliers and researched this project for a very long time, but finding it difficult to get funding. Many thanks for your help in this matter.
