10 Mar 2010   Exclusive New Dataset: National Statements from COP15’s High Level Segment

In line with our promise to keep adding new and exciting datasets to the LowCarbonWorld platform, we’re very pleased to announce the inclusion of a new and unique dataset: videos of every national position statement made during the High Level Segment of COP15 in December 2009.

These videos are not available in this format anywhere else on the web! There is around 24 hours of video, covering about 200 countries. Many of the speakers are the heads of government or heads of state for their respective country. So far we have over fifty videos uploaded and we’re working feverishly to get the rest edited, processed and uploaded. A list of the countries who currently have videos uploaded is included at the end of this post.

The videos are hosted on YouTube (our YouTube account is www.youtube.com/LowCarbonEconomy). To watch the videos, please click through to COP15 High Level Segment Speeches, where you can choose a country from a drop down list to watch the respective video. Alternatively, the videos are embedded on each country’s profile page. Just click on any of the country names below.

Once we realised that it would be really helpful to include these videos within the LowCarbonWorld platform, we set about trying to find them online. To our surprise, they were not widely available. We are very grateful to UNEP for providing financial support for us to acquire the videos for inclusion. We hope that you will find this unique resource useful and interesting.

A quick note about the underlying data: If you request this dataset, you will find that the data is in the form of YouTube UIDs (unique identifiers). To watch the video, simply use the UID in this format:

As always, we love to get your feedback, so please do contact us with any problems or questions you may have.
